Point Nine Repeating Equals One

I like to think about repeating decimals.

I've had many discussions about the topic of this post. What amazes me the most is the inability to completely believe or disbelieve this true mathematical declaration.

0.9999999...(and on and on forever) = 1.0000000....(and on and on forever)

In almost every case, the options emerge. "Well, I guess it could be true if you could add up all those nines." Or, "There's no way that's true; you can't add up all those nines."

And anger and violence erupts and I quietly back away and begin talking about something far less volatile like religion or politics.

As with many things math, you don't have to believe me; all you have to do is believe the laws of mathematical equalities.

These are things I like to think about.
